
Evolution of Tall Iconic Landmarks
Architect Mohammad Foyez Ullah had conducted a studio session of High Rise Design Studio ARC 302, Department of Architecture, Brac University. The session took place at the Simpletree office in Banani. Ar. Foyez shared a presentation during this event where he discussed the journey of tall buildings, how they evolved as cultural symbols, and how they became iconic landmarks to tackle urban densification. He also elaborated on the pioneering role of Fazlur Rahman Khan, Bangladeshi-American structural engineer and architect, who initiated important structural systems for skyscrapers. within the regulatory frameworks. On concluding note, he presented some of the projects of Simpletree and explained they had enriched the Gulshan Avenue and the Tejgaon strips and how high rise buildings beautify the bird’s eye view of a city. The studio instructors, Prof. Iftekhar Ahmed, Asst. Prof. Saimum Kabir and Asst. Prof. Saiqa Iqbal Meghna was also present in the event.
