lighthouse
Lighthouse's abstract design of multifaceted facades and their reserved geometry and material palette distinguish it as both visually complex and noble, which brings a sense of much needed order and civic mindedness to the commercially hyperactive street below.

EXPRESSION THROUGH ORIGAMI
Lighthouse is a LEED Gold certified commercial building which is another benchmark of sustainable model by SIMPLETREE that makes itself a signature by origami and the collage-like expressions.

It is a south-facing office building at Kemal Ataturk Avenue in the heart of Banani. This busy commercial street is a strategic east-west link between Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and Gulshan Avenue, both major north-south thoroughfares in Dhaka. The 15-story building is now surrounded by tall commercial towers all around. The structure occupies a rare corner square lot. Additionally, it is positioned directly across the street from another narrow lane, Banani Super Market Road that allows the building’s main facade to be appreciated at its full height from a distance.

The collage-like organization of planes, cut-outs, shifts, slides, edges, and strikingly articulated deep sun blades, fixed at various angles, constitutes a uniquely personal solution.

The origami-like large expanses of exposed concrete that wrap south-east and north-west corners seemingly right over glass facades are at once intricately layered and understated in a very clean and elemental way.

What makes the building particularly pleasant is the incorporation of double-height logia and punched landscaped pocket-like terraces at various levels. These intimate spots for lunchbreaks and informal social gatherings are much treasured features in this climate helping in stress reduction.

Various barriers make sure that only those who work in the building are allowed to its territory. However, this interface between public and private domains is negotiated quite intelligently and sensitively, primarily by the use of landscaping and intricate level changes to avoid the use of clear boundary-defining walls. The private domain begins with the entrance to the generous and lavish double-height reception and waiting area draped by the glass giving it transparency and translucence.
